JAZZ UP FESTIVAL / 18TH TO 25TH MARCH 2011

The Jazz Up Festival includes 40 dinner concerts in one week, with 4 exceptional concerts
in the festival hall and numerous jazz events.
After Archie Schepp, Mina Agossi, Philippe Petrucciani, Louis Winsberg, Ahmad Jamal and China Moses, Avoriaz Jazz Up now offers an exceptional programme for its 4th year:

 Friday, 18th March 2011: "Jazz Up Emergence"
In partnership with the C.N.V. and the SPEDIDAM, 4 centres for training in jazz and today's music offer you the chance to discover 4 groups participating in a professional insertion tour of 4 festivals. After a residency in February at the Pont Royal site, Jazz Up will be the first concert for these 4 rising groups.
For the APEJS (Chambéry): Aquarium Orchestra
For the IMFP (Salon-de-Provence): Kempachy
For Jazz à Tours (Tours): Ras
For Music'Halle (Toulouse): Alfie Ryner

The magnificent duo of Michel Zenino and Mario Canonge will close the concert.
A real encounter between two well-known jazz figures. The pianist Mario Canonge and double bassist Michel Zenino will be meeting in a fiery face-off.

 Saturday, 19th March 2011: Tigran Hamasyan: Solo piano
Armenian pianist – 1st Prize at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Tigran is a keyboard virtuoso who tastefully and subtly combines the legacy of his predecessors (Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett) with nostalgic accents of his own country.
Universal will bring out his first solo album in February 2011. Festivals: Peking, St Petersburg, Essaouira, Berlin, Istanbul, etc.

 Sunday, 20th March 2011: Nicolas Folmer Quartet + Rosario Giuliani: "Génération SPEDIDAM" Concert
With the generous support of the SPEDIDAM, we are pleased to welcome Nicolas Folmer, who is considered the best trumpeter of his generation, founder of the group No Jazz, arranger for Nougaro and Henri Salvador, but also the producer of a magnificent album taking a fresh look at the music of Michel Legrand...
For Jazz Up, the quartet invites the Italian saxophonist Rosario Giuliani to pay homage to jazz history's greatest quintets.

Au Bar Rond apéro Jazz à partir de 19h.

 ...un quartet en mission : redécouvrir et faire redécouvrir les musiques de la Nouvelle-orléans par tous les moyens, et avec une instrumentation originale : washboard, saxophone basse, clarinette et banjo/voix….. Forts d’un album récemment enregistré à la Nouvelle-Orléans, les membres de « La Planche à Laver » rendent à cette musique toute sa palette d’expression au travers d’un récit qui, de « old jazz » en biguine antillaise, en passant par le gospel et les influences country retrace l’épopée de ce « petit coin de France » au-delà des mers….
